This course will cover the history, theory, chemistry and execution of the Wet Plate Collodion process. Students will learn what made this process the most popular and the longest lasting of all photographic processes.
Overview: History, Theory, Historical and Contemporary uses of the process, Substrate, Chemistry, Equipment, Live Demonstrations of:
- Alumitypes
- Black Glass Ambrotypes
- Clear Glass Ambrotypes
- Wet Collodion Negatives
Student Prerequisites and Requirements: None. This course is designed for people who have never worked with the Wet Collodion process. Bring a notepad or laptop for note-taking.
Quinn Jacobson has published three books on historic photographic processes and his personal photographic work. He has a Bachelors of Integrated Studies (B.I.S.) degree from Weber State University (Ogden, Utah) in Photography, Communication, and Visual Art and a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) degree from Goddard College (Plainfield, Vermont) in 19th Century Photography. He’s recognized as one of the few masters in the historic photographic processes. Full instructor biography here
