20 Nov Digital Workflow Basics: From Capture to Output

In this workshop, students will gain a comprehensive technical understanding of how to produce high quality digital images from capture to ink-jet print. Topics include RAW vs. JPEG workflow, camera controls, software choices, and the basics of color management. Students will have an opportunity to participate in a photo walk, calibrate their monitors, and make an ink-jet print during this 2 day workshop taught on the campus of Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design. This class is taught from the perspective of RAW capture using an integrated workflow between Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. Students should provide their own laptops and DSLR cameras. If you do not have one please let us know. Lunch and printing paper is provided.

About the Instructor: Frank Varney has been an active corporate location and fine art photographer, and a collegiate level photography instructor for over 30 years. He worked as an assistant instructor in 2013 and 2014 for the National Geographic Expeditions Wyoming’s Cowboy Country Photography Workshops. Frank holds an MFA in Photography from Maine Media College and a BA in Communication Arts from University of Denver. His work has appeared in numerous publications, including AARP The Magazine, ELLE, Glamour, First for Women, and Ladies Home Journal, along with The Book of Alternative Photographic Processes (by Christopher James, Delmar Cengage Learning, 2008) and Photography for the 21st Delmar Cengage Learning, 2006). He was also the Technical Editor for Perfect Digital Photography 2nd Century (by Katie Miller, Edition (by Jay Dickman and Jay Kinghorn, McGraw-Hill 2009).
