About Rebecca Hart:
Rebecca R. Hart is the Polly and Mark Addison Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Denver Art Museum. Prior to joining the DAM, she was the associate curator and department head of contemporary art for the Detroit Institute of Arts, where she was the organizing curator for Shirin Neshat’s mid-career retrospective Detroit (2013) and Seoul, Korea (2014). Hart facilitated Matthew Barney’s Detroit-based performances SEKHU and KHU (2009-10), which became Act 2 of Barney’s RIVER OF FUNDAMENT film. She was the organizing co-curator for Julie Mehretu: City Sitings (2007-08) and Artists Take on Detroit: projects for the tricentennial (2001-02) and curator for Fluxus: it’s an attitude, Action Reaction (2009-10) and more than twenty other exhibitions. Hart graduated with a BA in art history from Williams College and a BFA in Fiber from Kansas City Art Institute. She earned a MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Arts, Fiber, and a MA in art history from Wayne State University, where she received the Mary Kirk Haggerty Award for art historical research. Her work has been recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts, Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, the Association of Art Museum Curators, the Joyce Foundation, the Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation, and the Metropolitan Life Foundation.
