Class & Workshop Schedule

The Working With Artists/CPAC Photography School is the most established program of its kind in the Denver Metro region. Most courses take place at the Colorado Photographic Arts Center (CPAC) facility in Lakewood, CO, approximately 10 miles west of Denver downtown. Some Workshops and all darkroom classes take place in Denver and the surrounding region. Classes and workshops cover all aspects of digital and film image-making, alternative processes, and career development, and are taught by a diverse faculty of professional photographers with established careers in the commercial and fine art markets.

Courses range from 3 hour intensives to four-week, 12-hour classes, and are divided into three learning categories: Intro, Core, and Continuing. Intro courses, needless to say, are for Beginners, and include such classes as “Introduction to Digital Photography,” a weekend workshop designed to give beginning students a foundation in basic techniques and operations. Youth programs such as our popular “Snapshooter” series teach very basic skills to kids as young as five years old.

Core classes are designed to provide Intermediate students with a more in-depth knowledge in practical and theoretical topics. They are usually four-week, 12 hour courses that elevate students from the “Beginner” to the “Intermediate” stage of their career. Students should take at least one Core Digital Photography class and one Core Software class before moving on to “Continuing” courses. Of course, to gain a complete grounding students should have a complete grounding in all Core classes.

Continuing classes develop your skills to an Advanced level, at which you should feel confidant enough to produce an exhibition-quality portfolio or enter the commercial marketplace. To help in this process, we schedule monthly portfolio portfolio reviews and workshops that introduce you to professional photographers, curators, and arts professionals, supplemented by regular opportunities to have your work seen in the CPAC galleries. Studio and darkroom rentals are also available at affordable rates.

*Online registration  closes  3-5 days prior to the start date or when the class is near capacity.
