CPAC Classes and Workshops

The CPAC Photography Education Program is the most established of its kind in the Denver Metro region. Most courses take place at the CPAC facility in Lakewood, CO, approximately 10 miles west of Denver downtown. Others take place at partner facilities – The Art Students League of Denver, the Zang Mansion darkroom in central Denver – and at off-site locations such as Santa Fe Drive. Classes and workshops are geared toward creative development for artists seeking to further their skills and careers; they are taught by a diverse faculty of professional photographers with established careers in the commercial, fine art, and academic markets.

Courses range from 3-hour intensives to 12-hour classes over four weeks, and are divided into three learning levels: Intro, Core, and Continuing.

• Intro Level – Introductory courses are geared for beginners, and include such classes as Introduction to Digital Photography, a weekend workshop designed to give students a foundation in basic techniques and camera operations. Introductory level classes will familiarize students with their equipment and/or software and prepare them to go on to the next level.

• Core Level  – For beginner and intermediate students, these courses provide more in-depth knowledge in practical and artistic topics. Core classes are typically four-week, 12 hour courses that bring students to a more comprehensive level of photographic practice. Core classes can also provide a refresher for photographers who want to expand their technical knowledge or gain insights into their work. Students should take at least one Core Digital Photography class and one Core Software class before moving on to Continuing courses.

• Continuing Level – In Continuing courses, intensives and workshops students develop their skills on an advanced or professional level, towards the ability, if desired, to produce an exhibition-quality portfolio or enter the commercial marketplace. To help in this process, we schedule monthly portfolio portfolio reviews and workshops that introduce you to professional photographers, curators, and arts professionals, supplemented by regular opportunities to have your work seen in the CPAC galleries. Studio and darkroom rentals are also available at affordable rates.

• Youth Program– These include a variety of classes and special events for kids as young as five years old, such as our popular Snapshooter series.
